Are  you interested in learning how to shoot a bow? Falcon Archers is opening the range to the community on the first Friday of every month.  The program is intended for adults and children 10 and older, and absolutely no equipment or prior archery experience is required.

The  Friday Night Intro to Archery is held from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. The cost is $20 for adults, $10 for students (cash only, exact change would be  appreciated). All equipment is provided by the club at no additional charge.

Individuals must be 10 years or older to participate in Friday night shoots.  Children may not be dropped off -- minors under 18 must be accompanied  by their legal guardian, who must remain on site (but you could shoot, too). We cannot be responsible for minors.

First  time participants are guided through our range and archery safety procedures, and then our Instructor Staff will offer quality basic archery instruction in a safe, fun, and friendly environment. The entire  evening is supervised by a senior staff member, and most of our  certified instructors have competed in state and national competitions.

You will then spend a fun and challenging evening learning a modern spin on  an ancient sport. You will be amazed at just how much fun you may  have!  (Note:  The Intro to Archery class is not intended to be a venue for social networking or for birthday parties, as space is limited. We cannot accommodate large groups or youth organizations. )

Please arrive at the club by 6:45 on the indicated Friday to get signed in and have equipment set up for you.  We will be limiting each class to 12 archers each night to ensure each participant has a fun and informative evening.

If you have your own bow you are welcome to bring it. Prior to shooting, please have an instructor look it over.

Upcoming Classes:

  • December 6th [FULL]

  • January 3rd, 2025 [Registrations accepted Dec 1st]

Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) is a program of USA Archery that teaches archery to young people, provides great opportunities for awarding achievement, and helps archers to enjoy the sport recreationally or progress to the excitement of competition.

At Falcon Archers, our JOAD program takes archers at all levels, and concentrates on developing the form and consistency needed to be a competitive archer.  All archers are given the opportunity to compete at tournaments on both an individual and team level.

Our main JOAD program is an indoor season beginning in November.  Practices are held on Saturday mornings in November and December.  Beginning in January, a series of weekend tournaments are held at local archery clubs in the area, spanning the western side of the state from Charleroi to Mercer.  At this time we also move practices to Monday evenings.  These practices continue until the JOAD State Indoor Championship in April.  During practices, a group of experienced USA Archery certified coaches help the archers develop the physical and mental skills to be competitive archers.

Archers in their first year of the JOAD program are offered equipment to borrow in order to make a start in the sport of archery.  All equipment is on an as-available basis, and archers are expected to supply their own equipment on or before their second year of JOAD.

More details:

  • Program is limited to 30 archers, Male and Female ages 8 to 20 years of age (various skill levels, Beginner thru Expert)

  • Based on the number of returning archers we will open up slots in September prior to the start of the season. Notification will be sent then.

  • We teach both recurve (Robin Hood) and compound (Bow with Wheels) type equipment.

  • All shooting and instruction is done indoors.

  • All coaches and leaders in the program are certified thru the USAA and have completed required background checks and Safe Sport training.

If you are interested in the Falcon JOAD program, you should send an email to our JOAD leadership at falcon.joad@gmail.com.  Please include the following information: child’s name, age and birth date, a contact name, and any previous archery experience.
